Pretty bad bank. I started to open a CD when I remembered that I had credit locks on my credit reports. I chatted online with someone and was told that because of the Patriot Act all new bank accounts required ID verification, ie, a credit report. I passed and moved on. These jackasses opened an account and have been sending me welcome letters etc. These people are idiots. Don't bank here.

I'm have had a $40k CD with Ally for two years and decided not to roll over the account even though they offered a $.25 "bonus" if I did so. It matured on 6/1/2010 and I called in on 5/21/2010 to obtain the above info and told them to transfer all the funds (electronically) back to my CitiBank savings account. They agreed, but said it would take 3-5 days to do it. I told them I pay most of my bills electronically every month and the transfer is done the same day I make my request. They had no explanation as to why they take 3-5 days to transfer. I know why....they are using the age old "Float" trick to have interest free use of my funds for “3-5 days,” and maybe longer. It’s their way to take advantage of a situation and get “free” use of other people’s money.
I am making a cell phone call everyday to Ally (so I have a paper record of my calls) demanding immediate transfer to my account. They shine me on with the same excuse. I plan to maybe filing a CLASS ACTION lawsuit against this despicable bank when it is determined how long it took them to made the transfer. First I will send them a demand letter for interest they cheated me out of because of the days they held over, and when it’s denied, will file the suit here in a California Superior Count. WANT TO JOIN ME???? It’s time these jerks are taught a lesson.
Write to hderv@att.net and give me your details. Details will be confidential

Do not deposit your money in this bank. I authorized a $25,000 transfer from my checking account to a new CD at Ally Bank. They "accidentally" transferred $25,000 out of my account TWICE. There is now $50,000 missing from my account. When I called to notify them of their error, they said "oops..we will return the money within 48 hours" 48 hours later, and no money. I called customer service and they said it will take 4-5 more business days to return my money. They are THIEVES! Beware!!

Tell other people about this Ally crew & refer them to this website. The Controller of the Currency and similar state offices should be made aware of the egregious cases. These guys need to be busted.

Folks I would not open an account with these theives under any circumstance. I made that mistake and still paying for it. Seems they could not automatic deposit my first paycheck in to the account. so I overnitghed at cost of $52 the check. Seems there was no one there on Saturday to accept the check so It was not delivered unitl Monday morning. Tuesday my Account showed the check deposited and my available balance was what I was expecting to be, so I started paying my bills. Next morning I now see a negative current balance and multiple 9.00 fees. Called the bank and they informed the check had a 10 day hold on it. So here I sit being payed but not able to access the funds. Next up they start sending out bill pays for bills I expected to have money for. They sent one out the 21st of the month and it has yet to arrives and tomorrow it will be late. Look at my account today and they sent another one to the same place that was not authorized. I have closed the savings account and just waiting for the hold to finally clear and I am gone from this bank. I would not trust ally to take out my trash let alone handle my money.

This May, I recently have been hit with one of Ally's computer gliches. I had opened an initial account about one month ago and because it was going well, I decided to open another account with them.
Then the huge problem arose!
Ally bank has a feature that if you verify an account with the same test deposit numbers than it automatically initiates a transfer from an external bank into your other account.
For example,
1. Account # 1- You open your account with $1000.00 and you have verified your test deposits.
2. Account # 2- You decide to open another account and use the same test deposits but this time only want to open your new account with $100.00,
Then
3. A transfer of 1000.00 will initiate to account # 1.
Leaving you with no solution and alot of overdraft fees from the external bank account.

Ally bank made it clear that they don't have a gliche in their system, and I informed them that if I wanted to transfer $1000.00 from my external account into my Ally bank account then I would have specifically did just that. But this was not the case. Instead you use the same test deposits of $0.45 and $0.22 and this is what happens.

Has anyone else incurred this type of problem because I do not believe that I am the only one.
For professional purposes, Ally bank should have at least tried to care about this gliche or the customer but that was surely not the case. They were dumbfounded!
What else can I say, I've been duped by this bank, hmmm no surprise there I guess.

I too am experiencing problems with customer service. Easy to put money in, but try to get it out in a timely fashion! Every person you talk to has a differing story.

I must be one of the few who has had good luck with Ally. I like the high rates, and when I moved to a 2 year CD, I received a .25% customer loyalty bonus in a few days after signing up. I hope that in the future, problems don't appear for me.

I also have had a nightmare experience with these clowns. They have frozen my account for over a week. No one can tell me why. There is a special department that handles this. I was promised a call the next day three different times. They are totally worthless. Even the canned survey you take after talking to one of their worthless reps, doesn't work properly. It's like a record that skips. Keeps asking you the same question over and over. I will get my money out as soon as I can.

I should not have opened an account at Ally. My money transferred via electronic transfer is held for 60 days. And whenever I called, I was given different reasons. The service was so poor and the CRs were so stupid and no experience. This is one of the stupid cases I experienced:
CR:"Can you verify the amount?"
Me: "Sixteen hundred dollars". CR:"Sixteen hundred dollars, is that correct?".
Me: "Correct".
CR: "So Sixteen hundred dollars is one thousand and six hundred dollars. Is that correct?"
Me: .....
They cannot keep screwing up customers. And they need to hire someone who can do the job. Period.

It's too bad people don't look for or read these reviews BEFORE this Ally crew hoses them.

Egad, was I wrong!! The first three years I had CD's and savings account with Ally, no problems. I thought that criticisms of Ally were unfounded. This month, however, Ally ran true to form ...I called on April 23, when my last CD had matured, to have the money transferred to my bank. Called again on April 29 to find out why not.
Five different CR's and one supervisor promised me action, and not one kept their word. It's always "sorry, it's the other department" script that's read to me.
This morning, I finally have a FedEX tracking number showing when my check will arrive. (gave up on electronic transfer). Now, we'll see if I have troubles depositing the Ally check. This firm is determined to hold on to funds as long as possible. They will no longer hold on to any of mine. DO NOT deposit money in Ally!

Ok, it sounds like you know the drill- NO LOYALTY BONUS!! I was given bad information and made my decision to renew the CD based on it - now no loyalty bonus because "management" misinformed the employees at the call centers and they misinformed me- Wow what a treat,I get the chance to pay the penalty for bad management.

OK.. it's my own fault for not reading the fine print about the 6 limit withdrawal on my Money Market account. So, I go to use the card and it's not working. I call Ally and they tell me it's been cut off because I used the card more than 6 times. THIRTEEN more times @ $10 a pop to the tune of $130!! Why didn't they cut me off at the 7th time? I'm po'd and they haven't heard the end of this.

I had a CD due and called 2 weeks ahead of the renewal date to discuss interest rates. I was told I qualified for an additional .5% interest on the advertised CD rates. I agreeded to renew my CD and asked if any follow up was necessary. I was told "No, and my confirmation number would be my account number since all calls are noted in the accounts". Then on my due date I called to just confirm what I was told because for some reason I did not feel comfortable with the intial call. GUESS WHAT!!!! I was told I was misinformed and the additional rate could not be extended to me. They acknowleged the intial conversation, but could not honor the rate. I asked to speak to a manager and he confirmed Ally Banks position of not honoring the rate I was quoted. You can guess what I am doing with my Ally Accounts. Customer Beware!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had nothing but problems with Ally. The latest is that I tried to redeem a $50,000 CD that had matured, transfering the funds into my savings account. This was only two days after the redemption date. The rep said that it had to be approved by management, taking 3-4 days to do so. What! I thought it was my money and my decision. To top it off, they then blocked my online access and wouldn't unblock it for two days, stating I had wrongly answered a security question. Total lies. I keep over $100K in this bank and get treated like a criminal. I don't care how good their rates are, I don't feel they are customer oriented. Everything takes weeks with them and with a lot of mistakes. My sister added a CD to her account and it wound up in my mom's account- how did this happen? Ally refused to fix the mistake, saying it was my sister's error. I will be moving my money elsewhere this week...

The moral of most of these stories is to stick with your LOCAL CREDIT UNION, no matter what the "rate of the week" is at Ally.
This Ally crowd is NOT WORTH the aggravation.

I have a really negive feeling about Ally Bank. I've been trying to open a savings account since Feb.26th and it's now March 18th. Customer service won't call when they say, held up the application without explanation, totally missed the linked checking account # given to test a transfer from Ally, the user name they gave me wouldn't work to get into my account and every time they make a mistake I have to wait another 3 to 5 days. I'm blocking any transfers out of my checking account to Ally and going back to my ING Direct account. I wonder how much trouble I'll have getting my initial deposit of $50 back?

The fact that you put children in a position that makes them feel bad, sad, tells m that I would NEVER use ally or formerly known as GMAC again.
