The Amboy Direct Premium Online Savings account used to be a big deal. It had yields as high as 5.35% apy, required only $1 to open, had no monthly fees, and didn't do a hard credit check at account opening. To even further the allure of the account, it was hidden on Amboy Direct's website and could only be accessed if you knew where it was.
Finding the Premium Online Savings account was akin to finding pirate's gold.
The account is still hidden, but it's just as well. Rate cuts took much of the glitter out of this once golden account. Rates on the Premium Online Savings account still beat industry front runners ING DIRECT and Emigrant Direct, but not by much.
