I transferred my money from FNBO, CapitalOne, and American Express to my bank at the same time. American Express came to my bank 2 days faster than other two. American Express sends me monthly paper statements while those other two don't.

I split my deposits between American Express (1.3%) and Sallie Mae (1.4%) at the moment. American Express is more useful since the transfer times are very quick, so it's the one I turn to if I need money fast.

I opened my account a few weeks ago and it's been great. Set up was a breeze and my initial funding showed up very quickly. So far, I highly recommend it. Hopefully the rates will remain competitive. Still need a little more time with account to get a more complete picture, but so far, thumbs up to Amex.

I have looked and looked for the AMEX routing number from their web site and cannot find it listed anywhere. I am trying to add my AMEX savings acct to my BofA to initiate "push" transfers. Does anybody know the AMEX routing number? Thanks.

No way to contact them or communicate by email ? What the heck ? What century are they operating in ?
Could it be they don't want to put anything in writing ? That's a little scary whne your life savings is involved.

I got the same 7 day wait message when I applied. About 4 days later, I got an e-mail welcoming me to AMEX Personal Savings. This may be the standard process, as I have flawless credit....they must review each application individually.
Everything's gone perfectly with the account. Typical AMEX, really.

I opened the account in mid-November and transferred funds from another bank into the account to get it started. The yield is very competetive and the rep's with whom I've spoken are professional. I just requested another ACH transfer into the account given that my first bank is lowering its rate while AmEx is holding at 1.70%.

Sign-up was easy and quick. The electronic funds transfers are very fast - about 1 day only. So far, I like this account better than the other online accounts I have, mainly due to the fast transfers. Rate is also very good too.

Account opened on phone with rep. Up and running immediately.
6 day holding period if you use Amex's site to draw from other banks. BUT, if you use other banks to push money into your Amex Savings, your money is available at once. Fastest ACH possible. One day! That's good.

Online application was a breeze. Very user-friendly interface. American Express is a good company so I thought I'd give this a try. Hopefully the rates stay high.

The online application process was simple. However I received the same message as Swolfcg. I don't know why that happened as my credit is excellent.

Setting up the account took 10 minutes and my account was ready to go withing 1 or 2 business days. The site is easy to use and I set up 3 external accounts quickly and easily. Transferring money to an external account is very fast. It takes 2 business days at most. I've had several transfers go through in 1 business day. HSBC was always abysmally slow in transfers so I was very pleased with Amex Personal Savings! HSBC took a solid WEEK to release the funds to my new Amex Personal Savings Acount which means I lost several days of interest. This is unacceptable and I will never go back to HSBC.

The comments here - both pro and con -- were likely written by employees of banks rather than real customers

My account opening process was very slow. I set up everything when I applied to have an ACH transfer done to fund the account. But that never happened. It took about 4 weeks after applying to get my first dollar into the account.
I've had a couple of opportunities to contact customer service, and it surprised me to see that they need to improve quite a bit. Everyone is nice, but they really do not have good systems in place to help you. My account access has been locked twice - no explanation as to why - and the site does not allow you to use the four security questions it makes you set up to re-enable your account. You have to call them to get in. I also contacted them via the webform on their site to ask for the routing transit number I would need for a direct deposit. The response I received said that they can't accept emails at this address and to contact them at their 800 number. I responded that I thought it was dumb to set up a contact form if they can't receive messages. Of course, the reply to that one was the same - call our 800 number. Ha!
Rates are good, but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle when Ally has great service and almost the samre rates.
