This is a SMALL bank. Why would people care to write negative things unless B of I was actually providing poor customer service. Why would B of A or Wells care about what B of I does or not? Obviously B of I's goals are not customer service related.

This is a rather strange bank, especially given its name. I was able to open my account with an electronic funds transfer (ACH), but after the initial deposit all transactions must be accomplished using snail mail. I have to say that Bank of Internet doesn't make this dependence on snail mail very clear on their site. After my initial deposit I had to wait ninety days to avoid an early withdrawal penalty (pretty standard with all savings accounts). After the ninety days passed I sent and email to the bank requesting account closure. A few days later I received a check in the mail for my opening balance plus all accrued interest.

I have twelve online savings accounts and I track them using a spreadsheet. With ACH transfers, it's easy to move money from one to another and then just update my spreadsheet. Forget about loyalty, go with whoever pays the best rate. Your account is just business to them, so they must be just business to you. I keep $25 in the lowest paying accounts and concentrate my money in the highest. Bank of Internet is not on my list anymore. It was tedious to open the account and transfers had to be by wire (for a hefty fee at both ends) or snail mail. Just not convenient. I closed it after four months. If you close your account in less than three months, they charge you a $25 fee. Generally, they are too much trouble for too little return.

I've been with Bank of Internet since 2003 and the bank served me well until now when I run into a situation where I lost my checks. Unlike other banks and credit card companies where they immediately freezed or placed restrictions on my account and issue me a new number without loosing my account history and settings, Bank of Internet's method was to close my account and open a brand new one. Customer service's attitude was non-caring with no urgency during this traumatic time for me.

I've been with BofI for 3 1/2 years, with multiple accounts, CDs,money market, etc. I think they're great. I have a local account with UBOC for small transactions, and closed B of A, for too many reasons to list. I know my online activity is much more secure than other online banking because there is a 12 number sequence for the customer ID, which is difference than the account number, an image for you to verify and an 8 digit password, that you change every 6 months. Even if my laptop were stolen my accounts couldn't be compromised. Any E mails I send are responded to with 24 hours, and I think their customer service via phone is exceptional. Easy to speak to a live person, without a miserable phone tree, and I found them knowledgeable, personable, and several absolutely delightful.
I've only had one phone contact that was less than perfect, but only because I was spoiled by the others at this bank. I would recommend them highly not only for rates, but just general services.

Very tedious procedure to open the account to begin with. You can initially fund the account with an ACH transfer from your other bank but, after that, you must either use snail mail or pay wire transfer fees to move your money around. Sorry, their rates are not THAT much better to make it worthwhile dealing with these folks. I'll stick to the online banks that have ACH transfer capability so when one lowers its rates, I can move the money to another, higher paying bank.

A year ago I had an account with BofI and it went well until their rates were no longer competitive. Recently they became more competitive so I reapplied (couldn't reopen). I then had to send in a copy of my drivers license and utility bill for verification before a deposit could be made. I sent then front and back of both account holders and the original most recent utility bill.
Morons denied opening the account by email as the processor apparently did not know that some states have renewal stickers for good drivers that is on the back (along with any change of address). I'm listed as an organ donor also. I will roll over in my grave if one of these idiots lives because of one of my organs. You just can't fix stupid!
Avoid the ignorant vote with your feet!

I also don't understand all the negative comments.
I have had multiple accounts with BofI since 2005.
only once did I have a small problem, in that they erroniously posted a check to my overdraft account rather than my checking account. took a few emails to get it straightened out, and get the interest charged refunded. but hey..... I believe the people in San Diego working at BofI are also human, and honest mistakes are made by everyone.
I HIGHLY recommend BofI.....

just tried to set up an account with these guys and it was a mess and you had to use snail mail and it took weeks and then they made the transfer before notifying me so the funds were not in that particular account. So it cost me $20 to attempt to set up an account. Called them and told them just to transfer it now and they wouldn't do it. Said they needed more and that I had raised red flags because the money wasn't there. I laughed at this and told them they raised a big red flag to me attempting to transfer money without letting me know when. Going with another bank that is for sure.

i have been member of Bank of Internet since they opened and I am very satisfied. Though I do not use this bank as the primary bank for my day to day transaction but some I do it in this bank and never had a problem. The interest yield are better than any one in the industry considering this is a small bank. Is nice to see at the end of the year how much interest your money have gain a compared to the miserable returns I get from Union Bank, Bank of america or Wells Fargo. I understand that an internet Bank concept does not work with everyone nor this bank all the nice tools big banks do but at the end of the day is what are you getting in return for your savings and checking account does not matter if you have a couple of bucks of five or six digits account. In todays economy this is what it counrts and bank of internet does provide what I need.

I have been happy with them until I tried to directly download transactions into Quicken deluxe 2010. I have spent many hours troubleshooting with Quicken to no avail. They said to call my bank. I called BofI and got a curt, abrupt and a don't care response: "We do not support Quicken" even though Quicken says they do. I almost pulled my six figure deposit out.

I have accounts with 3 banks,BofA which I despise, Union and BofI. I've been with the latter for over 4 years. Have checking, savings, money market, and a number of CDs with them, plus manage the accounts of my elderly Dad with them. I've paid bills on line, and moved money between accounts. Much of my money is with them because of their rates. I've found their customer service personal, helpful and trouble free, both by phone and via on server E mail. My only complaint is with the electronic transfers with other banks. Sorry folks, but I find them great, and have made much more money with them than I would have anywhere else.

I am looking at these terms and I'm a little skeptical I will be provided the financial agility I deserve.

It seems as though there are a lot of very similar "blogs" about "internet banking".

It is making me wonder: "for what on earth is there to fear as an industry?"

After all, banking is nationally a very competitive scene.

I have used their checking & savings for about 5 years & have found customer service to be veru good. I have not had problems with them hold-ing money, they are ALWAYS courteous. I have not had problems. My only gripe is the current interest rate.
Other than that, I would highly recommend this bank. I
think they're well run & they are more profitable than many banks out there.

Sorry

Wish I had seen this earlier. They call themselves BANK OF THE INTERNET yet you have to use Snail Mail for all deposits and withdrawals if you don't want to pay bank wire fees. Amazing. I had not seen anything about 90 days to keep money there but I suspect it is in the "fine print". I probably will leave $1 there as suggested.

Time and space prevent me from outlining the highly unethical and unprofessional acts of that "bank." Suffice it to say I had to threaten legal action to get MY OWN FUNDS returned from a money market account. My advice: Avoid it like the plague!
