Opened an online account on 5/9/2008. They needed to verify personal info so I received a confirmation Number and was told to wait two business days. Called them after waiting and they told me that they had computer problems and to wait a few more days. Finally called on May 19, ten days later and they had not done anything to clear up the problem and still no account.
I asked them to terminate the application at that time. They have no Idea as to what they are doing. It is a hard way to pick up and extra percent or two!

I use Mozilla Firefox to access my Savingslink account. After I cleared up cookies issue, no problems at all. I am happy with Countrywide. Easy to use.
Hope it doesn't change when BfA takes it over.

Regarding the takeover by BofA-
I've been through it once when BofA purchased MBNA. Not a good experience because financial statements from BofA (in my opinion) are a chaotic mess. Also, monthly interest info on CD accts is not available.
Moved my IRA $ to C/W. I think C/W statements and website are vastly superior to BofA as well as customer service. Hope BofA leaves C/W systems in place. When CDs mature, new rates will likely be considerably lower at BofA.

I find that the most efficient way to deal with CD's at C/W is to maintain a SavingsLink account ($1000 min) linked to my local bank checking account. To invest in a CD, I can call and request a transfer of $ from Savingslink to the new CD (that I created online). On maturity notice, direct that the maturing proceeds be transferred to S/L. Don't have to deal with mail except for returning maturity notices. Hope this is clear and helpful.
Have been doing this for quite awhile with no problems.

Opened their high-yield SavingsLink account three days ago and I can't be happier. In less than 72 hours I had 3 external accounts linked, they confirmed my ID because of my fraud alerts on credit bureaus, and my initial electronic deposit is already drawing interest. Three interactions with customer service were very productive. If you are looking for a place to park money to earn good interest, this is it! Two thumbs up.

i had a cd mature on apr 9 2008 and asked them to send me a check after it matures. end of april, i still did not receive the check and i called the call center to find out that the check was lost in the mail (yeah sure. i have recd 10+ mails to the same address since i opened the cd account and only the mail that had the check is lost) Now they want me to file a notarized affidavit and blah blah blah. whatever it is they have had free money for a month now. i seriously believe that this is some kind of a scam. has anyone had a similar experience?

beachnut - Originally, Bank of America announced that the Countrywide deal would be completed during the third quarter of 2008. However, some people don't think it will actually be done.

I opened up 1 individual acct, 1 joint, and a CD, money is moved from external really fast, moved into external a bit slower but many times that is good in case you change mind. They have been really good. Interest rate has went down from 5.50% but is still higher than any other around.

notrich - as long as the deal with bank of america goes through (which it likely will), your funds should be safe. Still, I wouldn't deposit more than FDIC limit.

With the interest rate keeps going down, BE AWARE when you open CD with this bank. Even you give enough time to fund your CD, amazingly turn out that Countrywide still has not received your checks until the rate has been cut again by the Feds! Then magically they have received your checks. And too much steps to go thru for registering yourself! What a waste of energy! Totally regret it!

BEWARE: one man's experience with CW.
Unable to support Firefox browser--5 business day hold to return funds from ACH transfer--After 2 weeks, check lost in mail--Customer must get a notarized affidavit to get replacement check--Wire dept now requires add'l identity verification. Bottom line, good luck getting your money back--I'm at 4 weeks and counting and CW employees are forbidden to communicate via email, making it harder to document their actions.

As a new Savingslink accountholder, Countrywide is pretty good.
No issues in signing up.
Fund transfer time is 3 business days. Right in line with most of their competitors.
So far, I am happy with their services.

Has anyone else had a problem accessing Countrywide Bank web site? I have been getting an error message since Monday. I have spoken to the online customer service and have gotten different stories. The last person said it was my computer. Previously, they were working on the problem and it would be corrected in two hours two days ago. I think this is a ploy to not have access to your funds for withdrawal. This goes along with the bankrupcy rumor.
If you have had any problems or not this week , post a response.

Fast customer service, have both Savingslink and CD's. CD set up via phone(before funds arrived) so I locked in the high (5.65%) before it went down, The transfers work very smooth. Very efficent customer service on phone.

Caution: If you have accounts at both Countrywide Bank and at UFB Direct, you may be over the FDIC insurance limit without realizing it.
UFB Direct is placing some of their accounts at Countrywide Bank. The only way to know for sure if your UFB Direct account is at Countrywide is to call UFB Direct customer service to ask.
If you have a UFB Direct account that has been placed at Countrywide Bank, it will be combined with your other Countrywide Bank accounts to determine your FDIC insurance coverage.

Countrywide has the best rates and service of any of these types of providers. Accounts are insured by FDIC up to $100,000 per individual, so if you have a joint account, you are insured for deposits up to $200,000.
