E*Trade is distinguished by one of the fastest and most versatile ACH transfer systems out there. My first few weeks were "fraud alert hell;" the fact that they gave me a "Digital Security Token" for logon may explain why I've had no problems whatsoever since then. In fact, after the initial pain this account has been wonderful, even when I use it just as a conduit between banks that lack online ACH systems. I've earned tons of float be setting up pulls for Fridays (they begin earning interest immediately, yet the target bank doesn't get debited until Monday).

3.01% rate isn't bad at all right now. There CD rates are all below 2%, so the rate will probably fall. Best ACH, easy to close using online service and never had any problem.

Do not bank with ETrade. period. Slow-to-faulty-to-'seems fradulant' non-customer service. Deposits held 3 MONTHS while trying to close account. Deposits took typically a week to post - that's using THEIR online Transfer feature.

Strongly recommend against.
Double transferred the money I was transferring in from another account. Caused the other account to be overdrawn.
I called and was "promised" that they would wire the money back the next day to the other account. That was three days ago.
Joined specifically for the apy. But seems like i'll end up losing the money I would have made, due to overdraft fees.

Rates are nice. Easy to transfer from other banks and pay bills without paying fees. Have been with them for about 4 years. They used to provide stamped envelpoes for deposits, now just address labels. Still like the service and plan on staying with them for a while.

Yep, this is a nice increase at a time when people might have been considering a move to say HSBC. I'll stick around for a little while. I personally have had no issues with Etrade.

I like this company very much. I never had a problem with my transfer, however I am kind of wishing I stayed with HSBC where I came from. At that time Etrade had a nice APY. The way I see it banks will change this from time to time and once you transfer money the bank you left will once again have a solid return. E*trade has been good to me so I will stick it out a little longer.

You're right. How did you know about the rate drop? Did they send an email?

I'll answer my own post. Looks like the rate is dropping to 3.45% in the morning.

Even at the current 4.10%, they're better than most. It'll be interesting to see how long they can maintain it.

Here's a company that offers and heavily advertises when they have competitive rates (5.05% last week). Then they drop the yield preciptiously to 4.4%. Not the best record. Fortunately getting money OUT if there is just an easy click away.
