I wish I stayed with HSBC, this is a good rate. It's tough because it seems like once you move your money the place you move from gets better and where you moved to gets worse. I get sick of it, and I know that's what banks are banking on...people not feeling like moving there money over and over again. GEEZ!!

Just an FYI to those who are not aware of this promo.

Your Online Savings Account rate has increased to 3.50% APY*, effective June 2, 2008. That's up from 3.05% APY. And it's 9x the national savings average.** This at a time when some other savings rates have been falling.

This great new rate will be available through August 15, 2008. After which, you'll continue to get our great everyday rate. So the faster you deposit, the faster your money will grow.

HSBC Direct has never rebated up to $6 non-bank ATM fees as promised unless you send numerous bank mails to correct it. HSBC Direct's customer service is really a mess where every CSR tells you a different story with the same question. For the same case#, you get different CSR answering your question with different answer. After 7 months with HSBC Direct (see earlier review this page), I do not recommend this bank for poor customer service.

At 3.8% (as of 1/29/08) they're way at the bottom of the heap. Obviously there must be a lot fo folks who aren't paying attention.

On Thursday HSBC sent out an email blast to customers announcing their rate drop to 4.25%. At least they are up front about what they're doing, but anyone who keeps money on deposit there at a full 1% below what Countrywide is being lazy.

HSBC is great, imho, and I've never had any serious problems. Their transfer tool makes moving money around extremely simple and easy. I basically use this bank as a place to bring money on its way to another bank, since its extremely easy to set it up to move money to and from any number of banks and brokers.

Be aware though - their security login is a little overboard, imho, and also the bank transfers always seem to take a little too long.

HSBC has poor customer service. Most answer you get is standardized and most of them doesn'r help your concerns. Do not recommend this bank.

They can close your account without paying you interest and without any reason.

Takes 3-4 Business days to transfer money to your linked A/C. If a weekend or holiday falls in between, you are out of luck. May be 5-6 or even 7 calander days. That sucks. Even though its a "VERIFIED" and linked A/C.Its too long. E Loan, GMAC do it in 2 days.

with regard to their atm card... the problem is they dont have a lot of atm machines.... so you're probably gonna have to pay a fee in most cases to use the card.
meanwhile, ING's atm card is free at 32,000 atms.

I agree with Mike. Minimum deposit of only $1, includes an ATM and the unlimited amount of transactions.

I only wish that the 6% promo would apply to those who currently have an establish account (at least for those who meet a certain amount).

This account has three very beneficial aspects: (1) you can get an ATM card, (2) there is no limit on the number of transactions every month, and (3) $1 minimum balance. These three factors make HSBC's e-saving very flexible.

Plus, the 4.94% interest rate is very competitive for an e-Savings w/ ATM.

HSBC makes you send in documentation proving your identity. While, increased security is good and all, the only down side to this increased security is that the time that the verification process takes delays the opening of the account.

Furthermore, it would be nice if HSBC would clearly state that you can just fax a copy of your driver's license to HSBC as proof of identity.

We won't know until HSBC releases their May product rates. The rate for current deposits is 5.05% APY and it is possible that this rate will remain in May.

If I open an account now,(2/05/07), what will the rate be in May?

No, the 6% APY promo lasts until April 30, 2007.
