INGDIRECT saving and checking account are OK, but their easy orange mortgage is terrible. First of all, when I applied mortgage, the customer service gave me the wrong information. They said that when I relock my rate, the clock does not restart which means that no matter how many times I relock my rate, the prepayment penalty only applies to the 1st year from the initial refinance. But when I signed the paper work, I saw that I still need to stay with ING for another year to avoid the prepayment penalty. Then I called customer service, basically they said that I could get out of my loan now but I still had to pay $300. I went ahead sign the loan because I thought relocking the rate for $700 is still attractive which they advertise it. Then now I am ready to relock, they told me its two month mortgage or $2500 just to relock the rate. I will never use ING mortgage.

I've been with ING for over 6 years and they have been the most reliable and easy to work with bank ever. The simplicity with which to transfer money is the benchmark that I use for other banks. Like another poster listed, I tried DiscoverBank, thinking it was going to be as good and was sorely disappointed. Transferring money was genuinely difficult and downright strange.
Like others mentioned, their rates are not the most competitive, but anymore the safety & security of the bank is worth something.

i am absolutely convinced that ING is the most convenient online bank to do business with. I have had accounts here for over 12 years without a single problem. I did transfer some funds to Discover for better rates. What a nightmare! Space wont allow a full recitation. I can say that due to a small mistake on their part when I requested a transfer to my local checking acct I had to speak with twenty-three (23)individuals, actual count, over 3 days for a total time of more than three hours trying to get it corrected. Finally I had to write a letter closing the acct to recover my money. I think I will try Ally next but may end up returning to ING solely for the ease of doing business.

If you forget your password and are asked a few security questions and fail, they lock your account, investigate you and you can never bank with them again. Ouch. Bad biz. Stay away from them. Customers beware. Read others like me here. Its all true.

I have had good experience with this bank until they banned my wife FOREVER from accessing our joint accounts. An intimidating teller "interrogated" my wife on the phone until she got lost and did not remember one of our store accounts. Then the teller declared her "banned for life". I intervened to remedy the problem and a different teller recited the record from my wife's secret file with this bank: she (my wife for over 40 years!) will never be able to access our money in Ing Direct accounts. Naturally, we left the bank and will never use it again. By the way, their claim to "save your money" is exaggerated: there are reliable banks that offer better interest rates now.

I have been a member of ING for about 3+ years and haven't had a problem with its services. The only problem I have is the lowering of the interest rates but I like the simplicity of access it allows me to use the account. I hope things change with the interest rates so I don't have to change my account. But for the most part I am a satisfied customer.

I have never had any problem with this bank. They make things really simple. However there rates are not as competitive as other high interest rate savings account. I think I am going to go with the new AMX savings account soon, and see how that goes.

I appreciate the different levels of security I have to go through before I can look at my accounts. I've been with IngDirect for 3+ yrs. and have never had a single problem. If I were to move to a different bank, it would be for its contual lowering of interest rates. These are becoming a little non-competitive.

One year after first comment in 2007 and still cannot find any attractiveness of INGDirect.
So far I find that GMACBank, SalemFiveDirect, HSBCDirect, BankOfInternet, UmbrellaBank, and EverBank do better as an online banking model; at least they reimburse ATM fees for using ATMs not owned by them.
Most online accountholders do not live in a town that has their ATMs.

I've had a savings account with ING for years without any problem until yesterday. I called to link a new checking account and asked security questions which had nothing to do with me. They promptly shut down my account and told me I would be given absolutely no access to my money (over $20K) for 60 days. With a big loan payment coming up in 2 weeks this is a major problem. I asked for options in proving my identity and gaining access to my funds again but they flat out refused. You can't send them copies of your ID, you can't go to their branch in person. They will not do anything for you except hold your money hostage for 60 days after which, the security issue on your account magically disappears. Do business with these folks at your own risk. There are plenty of customers who have posted similar experience as me on the web. After numerous phone calls and pointing out all the holes in their policies, I was able to get them to agree to send me the money in 10-14 days. Even this, I feel is unacceptable delay and I will be taking this issue to all applicable regulatory agencies.

I have had their CDs and savings accounts. I never had a problem. But because of their low interest I no longer am with them.

the most user friendly online account I've ever found. I originally opened it because of high rates, their rates are no longer the highest. I maintain this account for convenience, keeping small amount there and using it often because of easy transfers to and from other accounts.

The checking account is great - currently pays 3.4% and the free bill pay rocks, but thier other products (savings, CDs) are no longer competitive.

I have had the checking account since it was in beta. It started at 4% APY, and is now around 1%, but is based on your balance. Comes with overdraft protection up to $1000 for free. Also, they were doing a promo with 1% cash back on the debit card, pretty sure they made that permanent. The check mailing system works well. No problems.

"I've been with ING since 2002 and never had any problems...Even with their lower rates, I will still keep my accounts open with them and will always do!"

I opened a few savings accounts with ING back in 2002. They were offering the very best rates at the time. Unfortunately, they've dropped way down on the list since then.
I've never has a single issue with ING. The website is simple, efficient and secure. Customer service is good. The only reason I'm closing my accounts is the low APY. If I can get 4% elsewhere why settle for 3.3%?
I think banks are known to do this - advertise killer rates to bring in the cash and then after awhile they cut them. I think they hope most people are too lazy to move their money.

I tried sending another
message which has not
been accepted.
My problem is that the
review for ING was
blackened out and could
not be read. I contaced
my WEBTV server and they
do not know why. The
service person was able
to access the review.

understand why this
happened. Any info
would be appreciated.
Thanks, JD

...even HSBC Direct offers better APY (4.50%) than ING Direct, and with 3 ATM rebates of any amount moreover.
