Please save yourself a headache and do not use ONE UNITED BANK at all. I thought I would give a black owned bank a try...bad idea! They don't care about customers at all. The customer service line asks your for an extension number you dont have and simply hangs up on you after the 3rd request. Your emails will never get a reply. The bank is a joke if you had an emg. Absoulutely terrible service. I am contacting BBB!

Don't be fooled by the increase in interest rate. If you require customer service, then One United is not the banking institution that will provide it.
One United fails on returning emails and phone calls.
Just ones opinion.

Horrible bank, took forever to open and setup account (2 months).
Ended up closing my account before the quarter (interest got lowered) ended and lost my earned $35.35 in interest.

OneUnited pays interest quarterly and if you withdraw your money before the quarter, you forfeit the interest acrued! If you want to close your gold savings, you have do a bank transfer. You can't call the bank to close nor can you come into any of the branches. Oneunited does not do free transfer, so it will cost you! So beware!!!!! For the interest rates that OneUnited pays, why not go with any other banks? They are a lot more accessible, friendly, and they will at least answer your calls!!

I, too, have had a horrible time with One United. Nobody answers the phone nor email!!!! They are most unprofessional banking business I've ever seen. I deposited over $100,000 in when interest rate was high, but now, it's no better than the rest, so I pulled all my money out.

I have not experienced the issues as some. I’m receiving the rate offered and have had good customer service with various customer members. The best and timely method to move funds is via EFT in or out.

Beware!!! .....Interest is paid out on a quarterly basis. Any withdrawals made would impact your interest heavily. If you were to close your account prior to interest paid, all earnings for that period is lost.
OneUnited lacks customer service. Emails and phone calls are never returned.
Not worth the investment time. Stick to bigger names (CountryWide, Capital One, HSBC and Washington Mutual) and you won’t regret it.

I think I have the touch of death in terms of interest rates... well, either that or I don't do enough homework whenever I make a financial decision. In either case, I'm doomed. Anyway, I opened an account with them not too long ago and it took longer than should be expected from an online banking institution. I'm not exactly sure how long it was to the day, but I estimate it to be around seven weeks. Also, whenever I called their call center, I averaged about 15 minutes in wait time to get in touch with one of their service agents. I did receive a pamphlet recently from them apologizing for their failure to keep up with their own standards, which is nice since it shows that they realize their own faults. Hopefully, they'll know enough to correct it right away. All said and done, if it wasn't for their high interest rates, I really wouldn't have had a reason to open an account with them. And now, with their rates as low as it is, I don't see any other reason to keep this account. Meh, that's my 2 cents.

I would strongly advise against One United. There are so many gotchas connected with this bank, that it is not worth the risk/trouble. First, you are severely limited in how much money you can get out of the account in any month. Second, it takes forever for them to transfer money (E*Trade, for example does it overnight). Third, if you close the account before the end of the quarter, you lose all accrued interest. Fourth, I called the bank to talk about some of these policies, and the lady on the phone kept saying "they", not "we". I asked her if she worked for One United, and she reluctantly admitted that she did, but "I don't have nuthin' to do with what THEY do." When I asked to speak to someone else, she said that nobody else was working there now. She said someone would call me back, but, of course, they never did. From what I can tell this is a very small bank that is in WAY over their collective heads. Their attitude couldn't be more customer unfriendly. Run, don't walk away.

They are obviously overwhelmed. They don't answer their phone or their email. Their 'net procedures are not intuitive. Their routing number shows as Boston Bank of Commerce. eTransfers take a long time to process. They only pay interest quarterly. They are currently paying 1.1% higher that CDs, but that could change tomorrow. It's hard to have any confidence in them. That's pretty important for most customers. Now that I've been through the experience, the time and aggravation was not worth the extra $50-100 that I'm going to get on an account balance of $10k in 2008.

In an age of lightening-speed internet capablities why did it take a month to set up an on-line account? Stay tuned.

Ken,
I have to agree with you with OneUnited. They are "definitely" not ready.
As with other online banking (Emigrant, HSBC, Amtrust and Countrywide), I've had no issues with enrollment.
Customer Service seems "nice" but did resolve my issue. They simply recommended that I call another number. Go figure.
OneUnited is NOT WORTH the investment. Just my opinion.

I opened a $10,000 online and verified my id e.t.c but never got the paperwork, monies were never transfered , couln't reach customer service in time..it was such a hassle. Got me worried about all that secure info I'd sent online if it was never received. Word to the wise, don't do the online account opening.

Opened savings account without much problem.
Had to fax my driver's license though.
Phone customer service is extremely sparse(unacceptably long wait times- always at least 10/15 mins.)
Representatives are nice and knowledgable.
Not for the impatient or uninformed...

My experience has been quite different than the one person complaining. I opened the account no problem, the customer service is slow so just be patient and stay on the line. They are quite nice, very helpful and everything is set up. The online security seems to be a good one which is why it may take extra steps. A few extra steps is worth the interest.

I thought I would give OneUnited another shot. I completed the online application, verified the deposits and finished the account enrollment.
It's been about 9 days and still no response on the bank. Called customer service and no one answers.
Here's the bottom line:
- Online direction to open a new account is not well laid out.
- Very, very poor customer service.
- While OneUnited offers a high APY, it's not worth the aggravation. Take a lower APY and you would regret it.

It has been more than 10 days since my online application had been approved, and I am still waiting for the account to be opened. Their customer service sucks. Nobody answers the phone, nobody answers E-mails.

Just beware that One United restricts the amount of money you can withdraw form your account in any 30 day period to $40,000, so it would theorertically take you 3 months to egt $120,000 out of the account. This seems terribly customer unfriendly.

This is merely a test to determine if some of the reviews are accurate. Can transactions be completed over the phone? Thank you
