Beware of ING
  Wednesday, 11-11-09 04:39
If you forget your password and are asked a few security questions and fail, they lock your account, investigate you and and you can never bank with them again. Ouch. Bad biz. Stay away from them. Customers beware.

Wow, several barriers erected to banking with these clowns. They claim wells fargo wants $20 to establish a link to a WF checking account. Someone is full of BS. I'm pulling out after 2 weeks of changing criteria. Who's moving the goal posts? Is this really a bank?

Actually, all the other banks are dropping their rates or making it harder to get your funds either from transferring or withdrawling it out. Otherwise put it in a cd. I prefer banks that have competitive rates and ease of access to your account. Dollarsavingdirect does the job and their rates are higher than ING. Everyone knows how friendly ING accounts are if you ever open one. Thumbs up for now.

The fact that no one has commented since March should be enough to warn away anyone thinking about opening a new account with DSD.

I had mine open for a few days before the rate drops began. I pushed all out except for $1000 around the 23rd of the month. After the month's interest was posted, I yanked the balance and closed the account. I lost 15 cents interest but no penalties.

Anyone know how long you have to keep their Savings Account open (and endure their rapidly dropping rates)before you can close without any penalties?

I forgot to add that there are no fees with Emigrant or Dollardirect so don't know where that came from with the earlier complaint about fees. And about Shorebank-they do have fees so be careful and be wisemutest!!!.

I've used Emigrantdirect & Dollarsavingsdirect for years and am 100% satisfied with both. Fees? Never had one so don't know what the previous complaint about fees was about. Never had a problem with customer service either because I've never needed them!!! Great bank to deal with.

2.05% now. I should have went to GMACBank instead of DSD when I had the chance. I made a bad choice. 2.5% vs 2.05%

They are executing the same strategy they did with their Emigrant brand -- offer the best rates for a limited period of time and then pull back to below market leading rates after they have garnered enough deposits. They obviously have some experience that tells them that inertia will keep a lot of the deposits there even after they stop offering the best rates.

They have now dropped to 2.25% and still claim "America's Highest Rate" on their website. Wasn't even with them for 2 months an the rate fell from 4.0% when I opened to 2.25%. I'm out.

Move to ShoreBankdirect. 3.15%

Why is ShoreBank not listed on this site as one of the online Savings account?

DSD is really not worth it when you can get almost identical rates from competing banks that believe in customer service, unlike DSD.

Also, note that DSD is a branch of Emigrant, which has had reports out about potential conflicts of interest - they hired the House Minority Whip's wife as a director of a branch. A branch with *0* customers.

Then they got a little over a quarter billion in bailout money....

Just a day after I made my 1st comment about Dollar's rate, they changed it.

I'm now seeing the current rate of 2.65%. It took them awhile to do this. I'm wondering if their entire online account base had the same experience.

Dollar's front page states 2.65%.... I have an accout and it's showing 3.05% in the account details.

Am I the only one that's seeing this ?

I started at an APR of 4% today it was down to 3.05APR. This rate is going the same as the economy, down. There are now some banks with higher rates than Dollar. An unusual policy of the Dollar is not to credit interest until the end of the month.

Be careful of the Dollar.
