Tried to link my DSD account to another account so I can originate the request from the other bank. They do not allow this !! All transfer requests have to originate from the DSD side. Never heard of this. All my other accounts are linked jointly and can originate from either side. Not happy.

As for the comment that DollarSavingsDirect is not affiliated with Emigrant Band, and not FDIC insured, I found some information that should disprove that. Here's a link from Reuters, which mentions the relationship with Emigrant Bank, and that it’s FDIC insured (unless Reuters has their facts wrong):

http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS121752+25-Aug-2008+BW20080825

Also, according to the FDIC site, Emigrant Bank is FDIC insured (FDIC Certificate #12054). Here's the link:

enter in 12054 and see Emigrant Bank listed as FDIC secured

Did anybody notice that there is no mention of Dollar Savings on the FDIC website, Emigrant.com or for that matter anywhere where. there is no tie between each organization. As far as the FDIC is concerned they are not affiliated with each other. Donr believe me call the FDIC for yourself...

This is the best savings account I have ever experienced. They have absolutely a great customer service. They start applying interest to your money the day you transfer it. They don't wait and exploit your money for 3-4 day during transfers like other banks do. They have just decreased the rate to 3.20 but still one of the highest nationwide.

Great customer service?

The same fools who claimed *I* set up a recurring withdrawal when their web interface CLEARLY showed it was one time? Even the printouts from my one time approval showed it as one-time.

But they decided to make it weekly, and then refused to make things right.

Overdrawing on a linked account is a SERIOUS problem, especially when it is UNAUTHORIZED.

Then they have the nerve to say they are "sorry to lose you as a valued customer". Sorry, but if you value me as a customer, you fix YOUR mistake. You send the money back and pay all the appropriate fees. You don't deny YOUR mistake and then claim you're sorry that you lose me as a customer to a safer, more trustworthy bank.

This bank is wonderful. Do not let one or two negative postings throw you a curve ball. You get FDIC, high interest rates, ease of transfer and in my experience great service.

Rick,

It was an unauthorized withdrawal of funds from my linked account, which left that account overdrawn. I have the printouts of my transfer setups which prove it was their fault. Their customer service was comical it was so horrid.

Higher interest isn't worth it when you'll pay considerably more in fees. The account I liked to, though, was fantastic - they put in fraud blocks and worked to reverse the withdrawal, without charging even an overdraft fee.

...meant to say you don't get stuck in VOICEMAIL hell.

What was the mistake, redbulloh? Thus far I haven't seen any evidence of problems. Their communication is actually excellent. They let you know exactly when a transfer will take place, unlike some others. And both the phone and bankmail communications are fast, U.S. based, and generally competent. It's refreshing that you always talk to a live person instead of getting stuck in bankmail hell.

I was a fan until they made a big mistake. My local bank cleared up the mess nicely, but Dollar Savings showed absolutely HORRID customer service.

While their rate was higher, I moved my money out of DSD to a lower rate savings account. The difference in interest is more than made up for in savings in bank fees that DSD cost me.

its nice to see everyone is still blind to the financial crisis! who cares about the quickness in opening an account, how about the stability of the bank? FDIC or not, try doing some due diligence and opening your eyes...read below about the health of this bank!

So DollarSavingsDirect is a division of Emigrant Bank. Is anyone concerned about Emigrant Bank's one star rating on bankrate.com?

I just opened an account and it was VERY easy to do; and just to let you know, the rate will probably change downward as they always do when I buy in ; )
