To yeaamann: Rates tend to be higher on online products because opening an account online cost the bank less than paying a teller to do it, so the bank can pay a higher rate...or so that's what banks claim is the reason.

Why are the rates so different with online accounts as opposed to opening one in store?

I still kept my ING account alive, but I have transferred the majority of my money to my new wamu savings. I've been sick getting 3% for a while now.

wow i just sign up for wamu online checking for 3.30% and 2 days later went up to 3.75%. Lucky me. I've been with wamu for couples years and they have the best online support ever.

"Just opened a checking account online together with the online savings at 3.30%! Will move my $20K CD here from the default IndyMac bank temporarily until things get better..."

I just found out that when a CD matures, on the account summary you will see a big bold text saying: "This CD has reached its Maturity Date!" under the matured. They give you a bunch of information and even let you close and transfer to your checking/savings. AWESOME! WAMU is becoming a nice online site.

Unlike many other online savings accounts, you are only required to open the account online. Afterwards, you can use the ATM card and even the teller windows in the bank to deposit or withdraw money. I first opened the checking acount in a WaMu bank branch. Then went home and opened the online account on my home computer and funded the account with a transfer from the new checking account.

Can vouch for ease of opening an account, looks fairly simple and a good rate.

I've had an internet savings account with WaMu for over a year now. Their rates are very competative, especially given the multiple fed rate cuts. Based on past performance I would expect that their rates will continue to be competative. I highly recommend an online savings account with them. Make sure to open or already possess a WaMu free checking account, or else you won't be able to obtain the online savings account.

Very easy to open if you have already a checking account. It opens the account and can be managed instantly. Solid rate.
