You are all NUTS..
I have been dealing with all banks, and I mean all for a few years including this one, and this one is the BEST!
My transfers are done so fast it makes my head spin. They have the highest interest rates even though we are in a recession.
I am very pleased, I just think you all like to hear yourself complain. Geeze Louise....Best on line and off line around!!

I have two CD's at amex but their protocols for setting up an accout are confusing, redundant, looping, and poorly programmed. Amateur work. I would not recommend unless you enjoy frustration and pain

The worst company I've dealt with for savings in my life.
Danielle would not escalate calls to supervisor, had to go to CEO's office to handle complaints.
And about previous comments... freezing accounts already opened...because of verification issue.
If they transferred the money in from an account, they can certainly return it using the same verification etc.
Makes no sense.

Bank routing number is awkward to find. It is 124085066 (American Express Bank, FSB). It is at bottom of this page: http://personalsavings.americanexpress.com/deposits-and-withdrawals-information.html

I find their transfers to be really slow, and the money takes forever to show up in your account

I setup a American Express Savings account about one year ago. Still getting the above average savings rate and have setup multible transfer accounts link to my AMEX account. Recently I setup my student loan payments to automtic draft from my AMEX savings. You can get up to 6 drafts or withdrawls a month without any fees or penalties. It's the greatest.

Great customer service. Fast transfer between financial institutions. Easy to follow menus.
Amex have held the highest rate while their competitors lowered theirs.

Do you guys think, it'd help one's chances of getting an AMEX Card if this Savings account were opened and mainted with something like $1500~$2000?

I have a savings account with AXP and they have been holding my money hostage for about 6 days already. I called them 2 days ago and they said it would be available the next day so when that didn't happen I called again and they told me another 2 days. I have made at least 10 transfers to and from the account and it has never taken this long. Yes it is a larger amount that I transferred but they also said it doesn't matter how much I transfer, the hold will be the same. They do have a high interest rate but if they are going to continue to do this then I prefer not having an account with them!

I can answer the question about verification as I am experience a VERY stressful situation in regards to the same. When AMEX does their soft check, they carefully check if all three credit bureaus have the identical address. This information is critical to the process. Unfortunately for me, a clerk at one of the credit bureaus forgot to include the apartment number on my address. Although I have every single official document with the correct address, it caused a series of very unpleasant and time consuming phone calls. I highly recommend that you check your credit with the big three. Look to see if each digit is identical. Apparently, this happens more often than anyone would care to think about. I also highly recommend only opening an online account with one dollar because while you are busy obtaining official letters of verification proving that you are you, your account is frozen and you have no access to your own money. Unfortunately, this hidden peril is a well kept nightmare that should be made clear upfront to a potential new bank client. I would not open an account unless I verified myself first. I only wish that someone had told me all of this before I gave AMEX my money!

I agree with poster that this is probably all generated by bank employees. Pro comments work for Amex and con are from Ally

An 'internet' bank NOT set up to receive E-mails? I find that somewhat bizarre and wouldn't send this bank one cent.

I transferred my money from FNBO, CapitalOne, and American Express to my bank at the same time. American Express came to my bank 2 days faster than other two. American Express sends me monthly paper statements while those other two don't.

I split my deposits between American Express (1.3%) and Sallie Mae (1.4%) at the moment. American Express is more useful since the transfer times are very quick, so it's the one I turn to if I need money fast.

I opened my account a few weeks ago and it's been great. Set up was a breeze and my initial funding showed up very quickly. So far, I highly recommend it. Hopefully the rates will remain competitive. Still need a little more time with account to get a more complete picture, but so far, thumbs up to Amex.
