I don't know about these other situations, however I have had only good experiences with Bank of Internet USA.
Their rates are very good on checking savings and my mortgage. Their website has improved significantly, customer service is nice too.
What's there to complain about?!

I have been with B of I with multiple accounts for years and loved them for their customer service. Yes, the deposits by mail were a drag, but I had a small amount at a local bank so it didn't poise a problem.'
Recently things have changed. I refinanced my home for a better rate. The loan was for a total of $134,000.00 on a home that appraised for $600,000.00 after the crash. I have more than the total loan amount sitting in BofI,and a credit score in the high 800's and it took them months and I was treated like a vagrant. They were dragging things out because my "monthly income" wasn't high enough. They should have been beating down my door to get my loan.
With all the garbage about the banking industry, I'm going to move my money to a credit union.

I posted a blog on September 17, 2011 and received a temporary restraining order from Bank of Internet. I had to fly to San Diego the following Wednesday to defend myself. B of I LOST in court, they wanted to stop my first amendment rights. Brian Swanson lied in the complaint and said that I wanted to committ suicide and kill him. They are very weird, I am taking them to Small Claims Court now for my travel expenses..I have also filed several online reports..stay away from these freaks.

Bank of the Internet is not reliable. Avoid them at all costs for a home loan.
Particularly avoid Brian Swanson, he does not understand lending.
I wish I could post their denial form, it has over 60 boxes of situations where you can be turned down.
We have never been turned down for a home loan, they wasted all of our time, cost us appraisal fees, hit our excellent credit twice and because we have income from several apartment buildings and not W2s, they made us maintain a savings account showing that we could pay the mortgage for two years.
The US housing crisis will never end with lenders like B of I, we are staying with our existing lender, Heritage Bank of Commerce, San Jose, CA.

Do Not Use This Bank:
The Bank of Internet is the most dysfunctional bank we have encountered in 40 years of successful borrowing. I would also not give them my money for checking or deposit. Why support a bank that will continue to hinder the country's ability to get out of the housing crisis and recession, they should not be allowed to operate. With lending institutions like Bank of the Internet the US will never be able to resolve the housing crisis. As stated in yesterdays USA Today "in 2008 you could get a loan if you had a pulse, now you need to be an Olympic Athlete". Yesterday we were turned down for a home loan by Brian Swanson, a credit person with BOI. The loan broker, RPM of Truckee CA,who shares the same level of total incompetence, forwarded an email from Mr. Swanson accusing my wife of lying to him and BOI. This is categorically untrue and documented by numerous emails to and from the broker. The lender denial had over 60 boxes for the lender to check why they denied the loan. There was not one box saying 'congratulations you have good verifiable income and your credit score is over 750', way to go. This took 8 months of excruciating documentation and pain to be denied and called a liar. B of I will also send a commitment saying "Bank of Internet is your new lender, welcome, blah, blah, blah" and instruct your insurance carrier to make them loss payee in place of the existing lender. They are not to be trusted and they take your money for appraisal services, be very careful with this lender.

Just finished a home refinance with Bank of Internet. By far the best service I've ever had with a mortgage. It was wonderful to do everything from home, even sign the final closing documents. Every time I called with a question, I either was able to talk to a person immediately, or received a call back within 15 minutes. The tone of phone calls and emails was pleasant and business-like. They could not have treated me better if I was a million-dollar customer.
I highly recommend this bank for refinance!!!

I am unhappy with the fact the Bank of Internet refuses to issue statements for CD accounts.
I am not sure this is legal. Can someone help me?

Ok Jose Caesar if you were actually a customer of the Bank you would know that Bank of Internet runs a fantastic back end and that they are one of the few internet banks that takes customer service seriously.
When I read the comment below I didn't realize that you were talking about First Internet Bank of Indiana - they are a small Indiana bank. Look at their website. Be serious. I used to be a customer there because I like internet banking. There is no comparison which one is better - it is Bank of Internet hands down.

This Bank of Internet gets about 90 percent negative comments all the way back to 2008. Their site is primitive.
If You Are Smart, Log into:
FIRST INTERNET BANK at FIRSTIB.com.
Originated as one of the first internet banks in 1998. First class bank with first class security and staff. You should investigate this -- you will be glad you did. Many more electronic services like ACH between stock broker and banks. Free checking with interest, Mortgage refi, Business checking, saving, bill pay. Investments including IRA, CD, Money Market savings. Don't believe me, go online at FIRSTIB.COM and run the demo. Night and Day difference compared to what sounds like a very unprofessional BOI.

I like my free checking and no atm fees...that's all I was here for and it works as advertised.
I'm not sure why some people seemed worried, they are a public company...and FDIC insured. Same security as any other bank.

Bank of Internet used to be the BEST, now they SUCK big time. I just got off the phone with customer service regarding their misinterpretation of a message I sent them. He was sarcastic and just an a hole. They caused a ten day delay and any solution would cause a 90 day delay.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND CANCEL YOUR ACCOUNT WITH BANK OF INTERNET WHEN YOU'RE NOT UNDER PRESSURE TO RECEIVE THE FUNDS! CANCEL NOW!

As a long time customer I really like the new banking platform particularly the purchase reward program. With everything going with other banks this bank really comes through.

I was extremely disappointed in the service I received from Bofi. Mr. Reeves was pushy and impatient from the start, used hard sell tactics similar to a used car salesman and when I canceled the loan when the rates and terms kept changing, (very close to a bait and switch) made it abundantly clear that since we couldn't reach a place where he could make money off of me, I fell to the bottom of his list, service-wise. When I complete my current project and am better positioned to obtain preferred financing, you can be certain I will not re-engage this bank.

I found that they are not trustworthy. I attempted a refinance. My loan officer made it sound like everything was a go. So I went ahead and had the appraisal done on my property. After the appraisal came in even higher than I thought it would I got an email saying that I had been declined. I was declined on information I provided when I started the application process. I would not recommend them.

They are not trustworthy. Attempted a refi.
Very pleasant to speak with and they promised to make it work, offered a better solution which meant incurring more interest lock fees.
Again, promised it was good to go, so we agreed and paid for an appraisal. They kept dragging their feet asking for more clarification
After 2 months of aggravation - declined! Should have gone to the local bank - lesson learned!

5-yr CD rate is great. But, I forgot to check the fine prints of penalty for early withdrawal.
I guessed that should be six or at the worst nine months of interest for early withdrawal.
I trusted them because I saw 4* rating from bankrate.com and my investment newsletter also recommends for best rate.
After I put my money and had online access, I got the shock. I have to pay two years of interest penalty for early withdrawal, even if I withdraw on the 5th year.
I called customer service, who politely showed me the clause in the disclosure. Be careful when you chase high yield cd rate like this.
