AWFUL BANK! They acquired our loan from BofA and ever since we have had nothing but trouble. Their software is terrible, their customer service completely unhelpful and worst they fraudulently reported that we were late on our mortgage. . .we are actually ahead on mortgage. We are filing with FTC and any other consumer agency that this company is running fast and loose with their business practices and the consumer is the one getting the shaft.

Stay away from these guys.

I have a savings account with ING which I opened in 2007 but never did really used it anyway until I decided to go ahead log in to their website. I was able to access my savings account and I tried to apply for a checking account. I got an e-mail saying I need to finish my application and when I logged in it took me to a window where it says to call a number which was their security she asked me several questions and she told me that I did not pass and they have to close my savings acct. which just 32 cents anyway. But still that Mary Jane and Aurora were rude. Right at that spot they closed my account. So stay away from ING.

ING has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I'm 0ver 60, so that's saying a lot. I agree with others who have posted here -- if you want reliable access to your money, stay away from ING. Please do not be lured in by their cash offers to allow them to use your money to make money. It's not worth the hassle that, sooner or later, you will have.

ING is amazingly bad! I had over 200k in my orange savings and 10k in my orange checking. Yesterday ING without notice or warning or explanation closed my savings and sent it to another random account I had on file with them (I had three on file) which luckily remained active and I noticed it. I called ING and they said that the orange savings was closed and no explanation given and this happens from time to time. I did not really use the account much, and did change my address recently, but otherwise I have no idea why they would close my high value savings account and keep my checking account open. Not to mention how crazy it is to simply close off someones account without even telling them. I was with ING for three years. Needless to say I closed the checking account myself.

Stay away from ING. If you login from outside the US (like from Canada), they can lock your account and keep the money for up to a year. They are great until you run into a single problem. Only then you'll see the true face of this nasty bank. A friend of mine also had a very bad experience with ING. They blocked his account because he used PO box as a mailing address (While moving to another state). If you change your mailing address it raises the 'red flag' automatically and they pull your credit history to verify that the mailing address is already part of your credit report. If not, then say good bye to your money. Stay away from this "bank".

complaint about ING

ING Direct stole my money. That is what happened. They took a deposit, Then said they needed More verification. There is no more verification. Customer service is actually "sales" said they could not forward the matter to someone who could help, but eventually did forward it to another department, who essentially did nothing. They have not returned the deposit. I cannot use the funds. They have refused to close the account - even though their terms indicate that account can be closed at anytime by either party. This company seems to be very happy to steal people's money. I wish I had checked these complaints before I did anything with them. Instead, I trusted the AFFILIATE link that was sent to me from Tyler Tervooren. This is another, separate problem: affiliates with no liability for the problems that result from people trusting them.

There are Federal and State agencies you can report abuse and non-cooperation of banks, especially regarding fraudulent activity in your accounts.

Make sure you keep great notes and documentation from day one with any bank, and any contact thereafter.

More people need to report ING (or any bank like them) to the feds especially. It's worth the time, for yourself, and for other citizen's sake.

This type of bank is counting on people not following through with a government complaint about the banks illegal activity, and lack of required cooperation.

It is law the banks must assist you in resolving fraudulant charges, missing funds, and other issues regarding any accounts or business with their organization.

Do some 'goodling' -- there's lots of online help out there. I believe you can file complaints with government oversight agencies online.

H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E!!! RUN from this bank. They will allow fraudulent transactions on your account and offer no remedy to return the stolen money! Most reputable banks investigate your claims and return funds promptly. ING has rude and LAZY customer service who are clearly trained to take the path of least resistance, which is to deny you of basic consumer protection against predatory thieves. Do NOT trust them with your money! You will lose SOME if not all of it.

I've been an ING cust for 10ish yrs. I have a local acct but love ING more for savings and easy trasnfers. I like their forthrightness. Never a prob. 1.1% rate is currently only slightly lower. Highest I see is 2% w/prohibitive restrictions so I wouldn't get 2%. I often have to answer multi security quests because I can't remember when I've used caps, never a prob accessing my accts or getting to my money. As far as prepay penalty goes, it's for one year and if you want to pay off the loan within that time you have to know you agreed to this in the beginning. It would be the same with any lender who inc'd a prepay penalty. We're getting an easy orange mortgage currently and the pre-pay pen is 1%, not very much for a small loan and I don't see any reason we would want to pay off the loan that early anyway, barring winning a lottery and even then why not just wait till the end of the year to pay it off.

I have been a member since mid of 2004 and have no issues at all. Great web design features, simplified online banking, swift response, and competitive rates on the whole. ING may need to offer better rates since they are bottoming in Top 15.

Do not get an ING Direct mortgage – it is classed a Predatory Home Loan in Massachusetts, due to their 3% prepayment penalty! ING Direct may be a Predatory Lender in your state too. I held my loan for 3 years and did not miss a payment, upon selling my house ING took 60% of the profits as a fee without any warning, which is illegal under Mass State Law. I’m trying to recover the thousands ING decided to keep for themselves and I’ll let you know what progress I make…

Great customer service used them flawlessly for 10 years then rates were so poor had to withdraw money. Beware if you have an estate or will as they do not allow beneficiaries on accounts. Repeat no beneficiaries on saving, checking or CD accounts so your heirs will likely have to go to probate and hire lawyers to get your money if you die even if you live in Deleware where they are! Must be a bad business practice or something...

I have been with ING and knock on wood have really had a good experience. Their lowering of interest rates, however have dropped significantly. It makes me sad to see what I used to make versus what I do now and every month it gets worse. I hate to leave, but it may be time to jump ship!

I started with ING Direct 7 years ago. Website is great, turnaround time for transactions is quick, a pleasure to bank with them. However, their interest rate currently is the 2nd lowest of my 10 online accounts so I only keep 20 to 30 dollars there until their rates get competitive again.

We have used them for 7 years for our home mortgage, refi'd several times, have CDs, savings, etc. and have never had any issue. I have always found them very helpful and great-recommend them to others too.

INGDIRECT saving and checking account are OK, but their easy orange mortgage is terrible. First of all, when I applied mortgage, the customer service gave me the wrong information. They said that when I relock my rate, the clock does not restart which means that no matter how many times I relock my rate, the prepayment penalty only applies to the 1st year from the initial refinance. But when I signed the paper work, I saw that I still need to stay with ING for another year to avoid the prepayment penalty. Then I called customer service, basically they said that I could get out of my loan now but I still had to pay $300. I went ahead sign the loan because I thought relocking the rate for $700 is still attractive which they advertise it. Then now I am ready to relock, they told me its two month mortgage or $2500 just to relock the rate. I will never use ING mortgage.

I've been with ING for over 6 years and they have been the most reliable and easy to work with bank ever. The simplicity with which to transfer money is the benchmark that I use for other banks. Like another poster listed, I tried DiscoverBank, thinking it was going to be as good and was sorely disappointed. Transferring money was genuinely difficult and downright strange.

Like others mentioned, their rates are not the most competitive, but anymore the safety & security of the bank is worth something.
